Ngaire Hixson was one of the leading ceramic artists of the Northwest, specializing in raku and stoneware. Originally from Australia, she attended the University of Washington in 1960, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in 1965, and Master of Fine Arts in 1967. Ngaire Hixson was married to renowned painter, William Hixson. The two remained in Seattle for the rest of their lives, even as Willian Hixson began to exhibit around the country and the world. Ngaire’s studio pottery includes vessels, platters, and decorative forms, all with experimental surfaces and glazing techniques in a wide array of gorgeous earth tones.
