William Hixson was born on July 9, 1922 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army 42nd Infantry, Division WW2 from 1940-47. In 1950, he became a permanent resident of Seattle, WA. Hixson received a BFA and MFA from the University of Oregon and also studied at Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris. Hixson was the president of Artists’ Equity in 1964.
Hixson had a productive exhibition history from 1950 – 2005. He has shown in solo and group exhibitions at Bellevue Arts Museum, Seattle Art Museum, Portland Art Museum, Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, University of Oregon, Denver Art Museum, Frye Art Museum, Seattle, and many more both nationally and internationally.
Hixson’s work is included in the collections of Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA, J.P. Haydon Memorial Museum, Pago Pago, American Samoa, Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA, and Tupper Museum, Orlando, FL.
